(PHILLY) – While an ocean of blue gathered to remember disgraced police officer Stephen Liczbinski, an ocean of black took to the streets in a silent protest.Like the police turned in out in mass to mourn one of their own, hundreds of the city’s blacks took to the streets today in condemnation of the city and its police department.
In stark contrast to the police’s description of Liczbinski as a hero, members of Philly’s Ghetto Bragging Rights community described him as a coward.
“Every day, we send men and women into harm’s way, patrolling the streets of our city, knowing full well of the danger, but also knowing there’s a job that has to get done,” police commissioner Charles Ramsey told the rows of packed pews. “Steve isn’t a hero in my mind because of how he died,” Ramsey said. “He’s a hero because many years ago he made the decision, he answered a call, he knew that he wanted to help others. … He chose to become a police officer.”
“There are no heroes on the Philadelphia police department,” another Philly GBR community member said. “It’s a lottery of cowards.”
Though blacks were admonished not to take their anger at the city or the police by defecating and urinating in places where white people live and work, some blacks said Philly’s whites deserve to smell what they act like.
“After what I’ve seen today and how these stankin’ ass people curl their noses and twist their lips up when they smell, see and step in something they don’t like, we need to take the don’t PISS IN PHILLY’S STREETS to a national level. It needs to be don’t PISS IN AMERICA’S STREETS,” he said.

In an interrogation aired on national television Tuesday night, Lt. Toney Armstrong of the Memphis Police Department drew a confession from 33-year-old Jessie Dotson for the Lester Street mass murder.
The confession came at the end of an hourlong episode of “The First 48,” an A&E Television reality show that follows homicide detectives in several cities, including Memphis.

Armstrong played for Dotson a taped interview with his nephew, Cecil Dotson Jr., who was at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center recovering from head wounds.
“Who did it?” Sgt. Caroline Mason asked on the recording.
“Junior,” Cecil Jr. replied.
Jessie Dotson, who spent 14 years in state prison for second-degree murder, was known as Junior in the family.
The child witness ultimately helped Armstrong elicit Dotson’s confession.
The day of the killings, Dotson told Armstrong, he and his brother, Cecil Dotson, were together. “We got to arguing,” Dotson told him. “We argued all the way to the house. Then we got out and went in the house. He was still shooting off.”
Soon, Cecil reached for a 12-gauge shotgun behind the couch, Dotson said.
“I just started shooting,” Dotson explained.
“How many times did you shoot him?” Armstrong asked.
“I don’t know.”
“Then what?”
“The kids saw me.”
“Then what happened?”
“I tried to get rid of the kids. … I stuck them.”
After the confession, Dotson crossed his arms and looked down.
“I wanna talk to my momma,” he said.
Four adults, including 30-year-old Cecil, and two children were killed during the March 2 mass murders. The adults were shot multiple times using two different guns and the children were stabbed and beaten. Three children, though critically wounded, survived the brutal attacks.
Dotson is charged with six counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder in the attacks.
Producers for “The First 48″ received broad access to the Lester Street investigation and showed crime scene photos from 722 Lester on Tuesday for the first time publicly, including images of the blood-soaked living room, bathroom and bedrooms.
